The film focuses on the lives of refugees in the Kakuma camp in Kenya. it challenges the extreme images of refugees that are often shared in the media. To avoid stereotypes and extremes, the film builds upon our research by selecting households that represent a spectrum of living standards within the camp. The documentary follows Rose, Elizabeth, Ayen, Abdirizak, and Maker as they go about their lives, painting a rarely seen picture of long-term displacement.
Further screenings are planned for the coming months, including in Oxford. The underlying research project will soon be published as a book by Oxford University Press.
Congratulations to all involved in producing and directing the film, including Madison Bakewell, Christian Baobab, Raphael Bradenbrink, Alexander Betts, Joseph Lopir, Mbarushimana Salum, Olivier Sterck and colleagues.
