Farnas Yeasmin Nizom

Visiting Fellow

Farnas is a Doctoral Researcher at the Australian National University Law School, where she is fully funded by the Australian National University. Her work focuses on advancing the rights and protection of refugee children.

Her PhD project, ‘Evaluating the Role of UN Treaty Bodies on Refugee Children’s Rights’, provides the first comprehensive cross-treaty analysis of how UN Treaty Bodies interpret and apply human rights norms to children in refugee contexts. Addressing a critical gap in current scholarship, her research analyses treaty body individual communications, general comments, and concluding observations to reveal how international human rights law supplements and strengthens protections for refugee children beyond the scope of traditional refugee law.

Alongside her doctoral research, Farnas teaches at the Law School as a Sessional Academic. She is also a Research Affiliate at the Refugee Law Initiative. In addition, she serves pro bono as a Legal Advisor with Asylex, providing legal assistance to individuals seeking international protection.

During her fellowship Farnas willI develop a paper that applies a gender analysis to the interpretation of refugee children’s rights by UN Treaty Bodies.
