RSC Public Seminar Series, Hilary term 2025

Series convened by Professor Tom Scott-Smith and Professor Catherine Briddick

About the seminar

Among the various modes of spatial violence inflicted by Israel on the Gaza Strip in the aggression that followed the events of 7 October 2023 are the mass displacement of most of the Palestinian population in Gaza, many of whom remain without protection and provision in precarious encampments in the territory, and the domicidal destruction of entire residential areas, making them completely uninhabitable. Building on the history of the camp and other forms of spatial violence in Palestine and Israel over the past century, this seminar discusses the links between enforced displacement and the destruction of homes in producing the camp-able settler colonial territory in Palestine and Israel from the past to the present.

The seminar will be followed by drinks in the Hall.

Registration not required.

All enquiries should be directed to rsc-outreach@qeh.ox.ac.uk.
