The RSC offers academically rigorous, multidisciplinary teaching that attracts the finest students and practitioners from around the world. Our degree and non-degree courses have two distinct aims: to further academic understanding of forced migration by training future researchers and teachers; and to cultivate the ‘reflective practitioner’ by enabling practitioners to engage with key debates and situate displacement in a broad historical and international context.

The MSc in Refugee and Forced Migration Studies is an interdisciplinary degree taught by leading experts in the field of forced migration from international law, politics and international relations, anthropology, and other disciplines. This nine-month course places forced migration in an academic framework, preparing you for doctoral study or for work relevant to human rights, refugees and migration.

The RSC’s International Online School fosters dialogue between academics, practitioners and policymakers working to improve the situation of refugees and other forced migrants. The course combines the very best of Oxford University’s academic excellence with a stimulating and participatory method of critical learning and reflection.

The RSC is a vibrant training ground for young doctoral researchers. The DPhil in International Development programme at the Oxford Department of International Development provides an opportunity to study for a doctorate in international development on topics requiring an interdisciplinary approach. Students come from disciplines including development studies, politics and international relations, social and cultural anthropology, and geography.

Visiting Fellowships at the RSC are open to independent non-academic researchers, doctoral students, postdoctoral scholars, and professional academics researching aspects of forced migration. The main purpose of the Visiting Fellows programme is to enhance the academic work (research and teaching) of the RSC by mutual exchange and learning.

The DPhil in Migration Studies offers the unrivalled opportunity to undertake an in-depth interdisciplinary project on a specific and important contemporary challenge facing the world by drawing on world-class research departments, centres and scholars. Based in the Oxford Department of International Development and the School of Anthropology and Museum Ethnography, it offers the opportunity to link research training to research practice at the Centre on Migration Policy and Society and the Refugee Studies Centre.
