This week Foreign Policy published an article focusing on refugee-run organisations, and in particular the lack of funding they receive from donors despite the important role they play locally. And as the article states, “as COVID-19 closed borders and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and other international organizations limited their services, refugee-led initiatives became even more important.”
Those interviewed for the article include Alexander Betts (RSC), Robert Hakiza (YARID), a long-time associate of the Refugee Economies Programme, and Mustafa Alio, who contributed to the RSC’s Trinity term 2020 Public Seminar Series as part of the Global Refugee-Led Network.
