About the speaker
Laura Messina obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in International Sciences and European Institutions from the University of Milan in 2008, and in 2010 she completed a Masters Degree in International Relations at the University of Milan, with a thesis on deportation and forcible transfers of population in armed conflicts and international criminal responsibility.
Laura is currently enrolled on a PhD in Public Law, Criminal And International Justice –XXVIII Cycle, Curriculum in Criminal and International Justice, at the University of Pavia, Italy.
Laura spent an exchange study and research period at Åbo Akademi University, Institute for Human Rights, Department of Law, Finland under the Erasmus Programme, from late August 2013 to May 2014.
Laura’s research focuses on development-induced displacement and the role of international law on the matter, in particular the contributions of international human rights law in dealing with this issue.
The title of her paper is: Forced displacement in the name of development and international law: an overview.
