Maja Janmyr

Professor in International Migration Law, University of Oslo

Maja Janmyr is Professor in International Migration Law at the University of Oslo. She studies how refugees and other migrants understand and engage with legal norms and institutions, and how International Refugee Law in particular is interpreted and implemented in local contexts. She has worked extensively on refugee rights in the Middle East, with a particular focus on Lebanon.

Janmyr is also PI of the research project 'Protection without Ratification? International Refugee Law beyond States Parties to the 1951 Refugee Convention (BEYOND)', funded by a European Research Council (ERC) Starting Grant (2021-2025), as well as the project 'Refugees and the Arab Middle East: Protection in States Not Party to the Refugee Convention (REF-ARAB)', funded by the Research Council of Norway’s FRIPRO-program (2019-2023).
