Amanda Alencar

Visiting Research Fellow

Amanda Alencar is a digital migration scholar specialized in the study of media and social media in Europe and Latin America, with a focus on how communication technologies are shaping refugee mobility and integration processes. She is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Media & Communication at Erasmus University Rotterdam. Prior to this appointment, Amanda was a Marie Curie Post-doctoral Fellow at the University of Amsterdam, where she conducted a research project on the role of TV news for promoting interculturalism and the integration of economic and refugee migrants in the Netherlands, Spain, Ireland, and Brazil. She is also the incoming Vice Chair of the Intercultural Communication Division within the International Communication Association (ICA), board member of the Professional Advisory Committee (PAC) at Erasmus University Rotterdam, and a former member of the Galician Association of Communication (AGACOM). She is currently guest editing two special issues in the (open-access) peer-reviewed journals ‘International Communication Gazette (ICG)’ and ‘Media & Communication’ on the intersections between media, communication and forced migration processes.
