About the speaker
Ann Singleton is a Senior Research Fellow at the School for Policy Studies, University of Bristol. She has published and spoken widely in the areas of asylum and international migration policy and statistics in the UK and the European Union.
Her work focuses on the use of international migration data in the development of policy. She has advised the European Commission, the European Parliament, the Council of Ministers and EU Presidencies and collaborated with many NGOs and international organisations including the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE). Ann is also Co-Chair of Statewatch.
Between 2002 and 2004 Ann was responsible for policy on statistics in the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Justice and Home Affairs. In 2008, she was the migration expert on the Steering Panel for the Science Review of the Home Office and the Ministry of Justice. This report makes 24 key recommendations on improving the use and delivery of science in policy-making in all activities of the Home Office and Ministry of Justice. Ann has recently produced a migration statistic training kit for the ESCWA (United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia): "International Migration Statistics: Meeting the International Recommendations".
