Colloquium on the Fundamental Rights of Refugees and the Displaced

On 6 October, a Colloquium on the “Fundamental Rights of Refugees and the Displaced” will take place at All Souls College, Oxford, followed by a drinks reception and dinner to celebrate the work of Albert Cohen and, in particular, to mark the 70th anniversary of the 1946 Agreement on the Adoption of a Travel Document for Refugees, which was signed in London on 15 October 1946.
Given the numbers of refugees and displaced in the world today, the ongoing crisis reflected in continuing movements towards Europe, and the ever-increasing need for documentation, this event could not be more timely. Among other matters, it will provide an opportunity to look back at how international institutions for the protection of refugees have evolved and at the critical significance of the travel document for refugees in pursuit of solutions.
